Herbs to Cleanse and Relax

Cleansing Secret #21 Homegrown Herbal Teas
Consider growing your own organic tea herbs in your garden or in a pot on a sunny windowsill. Hot herbal tea is perfect on cold winter days or cleanse days.
• Lemonbalm, Peppermint, Spearmint, Calendula, Catmint, Lavender, Hyssop and Marjoram, are easy to grow.
• Sage and Rosemary grow well together because they need the same amount of sun, well drained soil and not much water.
• Use herbs fresh all summer long, then move herbs such as Rosemary, Sage, and Marjoram inside for the winter.
• To make one cup herbal infusion (tea) use one tablespoon fresh herbs – flowers and leaves – or one teaspoon dried herb. Steep 5 to 10 minutes.
• To dry extra herbs for use in the winter, simply hang herbs by their stems or lay in single layers on a clean screen. Place in a dark, dry place until leaves and stems are crisp and crunchy dry. Store in paper bags and crumble just before use to retain essential oils and color.

Smooth away your stress and help your body cleanse

Cleansing Secret #20 Use Massage and Essential Oils to Turn Your Cleanse into a Spa Experience!
A full-body massage is a fantastic cleanse-enhancing experience and should leave you feeling very mellow and relaxed!

Look for a Swedish massage or lymphatic drainage massage, both of which increase circulation and lymph flow, which promotes detoxification.

As the tissues are massaged, toxins are pushed out of the space between cells into the lymphatic system, which transports them to be processed by the liver and moved out of the body. As if that weren’t enough, massage also helps relieve tension, stress and pain, releases lactic acid and endorphins (feel good hormones) and improves flexibility.

Do It At Home – An Aromatherapy Massage
If you can’t find a massage professional who uses aromatherapy in their treatments, give yourself a treat or ask your spouse or friend to help you out!

Essential oils are naturally present in certain leaves, flowers, bark, stems, twigs, fruit and roots, and are extracted commercially by steam distillation.
These oils provide many healing and balancing benefits for body, mind and spirit, and their therapeutic use is the art and science of aromatherapy. Essential oils are readily absorbed through the skin and when inhaled, they affect the brain and emotions.

Essential oils such as pink grapefruit and birch encourage lymph drainage when diluted in carrier oil such as sweet almond oil or unscented lotion, and smoothed on your body. Other essential oils that help detoxification and relieve lymph congestion are orange, geranium, fennel, juniper, marjoram, lavender, cypress and rose oil.

Choose aromatherapy oils based on the scent you like – You can use a single oil or up to four oils in a blend. Make sure that you dilute no more than 10 drops essential oil in one tablespoon (15 ml) carrier oil.

Blend well and massage firmly, but gently into feet, legs, arms and torso. The scent should last for several hours!

For best effect, buy only the best quality essential oils. Protect the bottle from light and heat. Keep tightly closed.

General Cautions: Do not take internally or use undiluted on skin except as indicated! Do not use on children under 3 years. Use half as many drops on children and the elderly. Use only as indicated. Do not use during pregnancy.
